Updates Etc.

It's been almost a year since I last posted! It's hard to believe but apparently true. I must apologize for just dropping out of sight. I have gone through some major changes in my personal life (including sickness) so the Sims 'world', so to speak, is one of those things that suffered my neglect as a result.

I am so, so sorry. Now that I'm on the upswing I don't even know if anyone is interested in more chapters of "Just That Close". Here's the thing I'm struggling with: my game has been wonky since September last year; I have done everything I could to make it work (short of getting a new computer - and that ain't gonna happen.). I have a ticket in to EA help but to be honest I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. The last time I tried getting help there it turned out that I knew more about the game than the 'tech' who was suppose to be helping me!

I can launch and access the game and even 'play' it and save BUT I can't get back into my Saved Games later. This is more than frustrating when you're working on a story. It means that I would have to, in effect, start over in a fresh game each time I sign in. This, as you can imagine, is time consuming and quite disheartening.

I have two chapters written (future chapters) and some old pics I took previously. I'm willing to make an effort if you all are still interested in the story.

I can do one of two things: write the story using no pics and post or I can try to work on my game and write the story w/pics but post at longer intervals between chapters.

Um...or I could just forget about it altogether ;-).

I'm going to put up a poll and will use the results to make the final decision. You get to decide.

Thanks for not throwing any 'virtual' eggs my way and please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Finally, I've noticed a lot of new traffic from those who are interested in Big Valley Fiction. Just a note: I have been slowly (very slowly) working on a followup to "Letters". If ever I finish, it'll be found on The Big Valley Writing Desk. We'll see ;-).

Letters: A Big Valley Fan Fiction Story

Last post (yes I know it's been a while *insert blush*) I promised to add the link to the full story. I know it wasn't popular here but there is a community of writers and readers alike who adore the western and has kept it alive with their own tales. I've been a member of The Big Valley Writing Desk for a long time and was a quiet reader *hehe* but was compelled earlier this year to add my own tale to the list of the many wonderful stories there. Letters was the result of that need to contribute. The link above will take you to the author's alphabetical listing (I am know as LkeVelvet there). If for some reason the link doesn't work you can find it by sorting Title or Author. Enjoy!

Letters - A Fan Fiction Story

So I've noticed that Letters is not as popular. No comments, no requests for more and the stats don't compare to Just That Close. I'm thinking no one is interested and so I've decided to put up a poll (It's first on the menu bar to the right.). If you want more chapters please take part in the poll. If I don't get a lot of  hits then I won't worry with posting the rest of the story. Thanks all. :-)

And to all my Just That Close Readers - I haven't forgotten you. It's coming ;).

Letters - Chapter 5

The Letter To Bethie

Heath had finally gotten his letter to Bethie written. He’d risen early the next morning and headed a ways down Freedman’s Pass, a shallow path that snaked through the stretch of trees that made up the woods proper. There was a way station at the end of the path, a little shack really, that was headed up by a former trapper, Two-legged Sam; Sam had lost a leg in one of his own traps and had decided to go into the ‘posting business’ with his sons. Heath chatted with Sam and his boys a bit, before heading back to the cabin. He weaseled a promise from Clint, Sam’s oldest, that his letter would reach Strawberry in record time.

He thought of Bethie all the way back to the cabin and wondered about how she fared. He prayed the letter made it to her in good time. If not, he could look to see her riding in one morning, a rope in one hand and a pistol in the other. He grimaced as he massaged his throat, then looked up through the branches of the sheltering trees and whispered a prayer, “Dear Lord, I know I’ve missed a month of Sundays, but please, please let her get it, I’d sure hate to meet up with You sooner than either of us intended!”

Will The Real Marie Baxter Please Stand Up?

So this is the result of a writing prompt from one of those Writing Prompt sites you can find online. If I remember correctly the idea was to introduce a character who was starting over in a new town or job or whatever. It had to be under 250 words. This one is 249. I guess it works ;).

Marie Anne Baxter was a sham. Her blonde hair, the result of a dye bottle, wasn’t naturally long; hair extensions work wonders. The designer bag she held clutched under her arm was a knock off and the snake-skin shoes she was wearing were really an imitation; they were also very tight. She raised slender fingers to adjust the rather cheap, but flashy, shades on her nose that was still healing from the ‘corrective’ surgery she’d paid for with her ex-boyfriend’s money.

Marie Anne Baxter wasn’t even the blonde’s real name. Today, she was Marie and she was moving into her new home, in a new town, to start a new life.

The movers’ van had just pulled in behind her. She was leaning against her car which was parked in front of the townhouse apartment she was renting. She’d beaten the truck there by twenty minutes and she wasn’t happy. She adjusted her large framed shades again and stood up to meet the mover that’d just alighted from his perch behind the steering wheel.

The man was tall, surprisingly well groomed and was sporting a backwards baseball cap on top of a wild mop of curls. He was nice looking. As he approached Marie he looked back at his partner who had just alighted from the cab of the truck and instructed him to open the rear door so that they could begin to unload. He met her with a small smile, “Ms Baxter?”

Just That Close Chapter 3

In the first two chapters of Just That Close you met a couple who are on the brink of divorce. Morgana and Thornton Wolff were married at a young age and had started out with promise. An unexpected loss of a child and the subsequent events that followed the tragedy has all but destroyed the couple. Morgana has lost herself to grief and stands to lose much more. Thornton has decided to call an end to his marriage and is looking ahead with hopes of a future for him and the new woman in his life. But what of the third party in this triangle of loss, deception and love? Who is she and how did she come to be the woman between?
